Bridging the Digital Divide

The Rural Digital Opportunity Fund (RDOF) is a Federal Communications Commission initiative focused on bridging the digital divide to efficiently fund the deployment of broadband networks in rural America.1 This includes many unserved and underserved rural communities that do not have Internet service with speeds of at least 25/3 Mbps.

  • What is the timeline for completion?

    This is a multiyear project across 24 states and as a result there are no firm completion dates at this time. Construction is scheduled to begin in some states by late 2021. The entire buildout is estimated to be completed by 2027 with some states finalizing construction into early 2028.

  • What products will be included?

    New locations that are part of this buildout will be eligible to receive Spectrum Internet®, which currently offers starting speeds of 300 Mbps in nearly 85% of our 41-state service area (100 Mbps in the remaining areas) with speeds up to 1 Gbps available. Upon completion, these new locations will also gain access to Spectrum’s other services like Spectrum MobileTM, Spectrum Voice®, and a selection of Spectrum TV® products. Additional information regarding which specific products will be included may vary by region and is not available at this time.

    These products will come with all of the other benefits of Spectrum service, including no annual contracts, no data caps, and no modem fees.

  • What states are included in the RDOF buildout?

    The RDOF buildout is planned for 24 states, including currently unserved and underserved homes and businesses in:

  • Where can I find out more?

    We have no additional updates at this time, and our Customer Service representatives do not have any information beyond what is published here. You can check back here periodically for new program information and buildout updates.

  • Does Spectrum offer discounts for low-income households?

    Spectrum is proud to participate in the federal and certain state Lifeline programs in its RDOF areas. Lifeline is a government-assistance program, under which, Spectrum offers discounts on Home Phone and Internet service for qualified low-income households.     Only eligible consumers may enroll in the Lifeline program. Limit one Lifeline service discount per household. Lifeline service is non-transferable.

    The Eligible Telecommunications Carriers (ETCs) identified below and affiliates (collectively, “Spectrum”) offer or will offer Lifeline service in the RDOF areas in the following states:
